Strengthening Community Power
Through Social Media

A culturally grounded, systems-based strategy that improved digital visibility, increased meaningful engagement, and supported member recruitment for domestic workers in Central Texas.

Background and Challenge

Prior to the engagement, MISMA’s social media lacked consistent formats, planning structure, and standardized branding. The organization did not have established branding guidelines or a website to anchor its digital identity.

Social media was managed by volunteers led by the Executive Director, with limited resources, software access, and training materials. This constrained engagement quality, visibility, and brand recognition despite strong program activity.

Low structure and planning

Limited tools and training

Weak brand recognition

Objectives

The primary objective was capacity building. JB Consulting ATX trained MISMA’s volunteer team on strategy, content planning, and consistent execution aligned with clear branding and messaging.

Success was defined by a measurable recruitment outcome: registering at least 50 new domestic workers for MISMA’s Annual Training.

Primary

Educate the volunteer team on strategy and branding adherence

Secondary

Outreach and community building

Strategy

The approach prioritized storytelling to document MISMA’s work throughout the year and to amplify domestic worker leadership in Central Texas. Content pillars were built around the organization’s program and event timeline for relevance and consistency.

Community voices were central through testimonios that strengthened trust and visibility. Fundraising was intentionally limited to one focused annual campaign to keep the content calendar primarily educational and community-centered.

Community storytelling was treated as organizing work, not promotional content.

Systems, Governance, and Training

To increase sustainability, JB Consulting ATX introduced formal committee agreements and a clear framework for content creation, including visual standards, inclusive language, posting guidance, legal considerations, and a review process.

Training included content creation and branding guidelines, plus an onboarding session that successfully integrated three of four team members into Canva, Google Drive, Meta Business Suite, and Signal.

Programmatic Growth Supported by Digital Strategy

During 2025, MISMA continued strengthening core programs including Café Social, the Annual Domestic Workers Training, and Haciendo Historia, while expanding its narrative impact through a new Writers Program developed in collaboration with Las Malcriadas.

The Writers Program is designed to amplify domestic workers’ stories, strengthen written expression as a tool for leadership and healing, and increase public visibility of domestic work through a community lens.
